Website speed test: check how Google sees your page

Enter your address and run the website speed test with Google PageSpeed Insights: you will get a score from 0 to 100 and the list of issues slowing your page down.

Free, no sign-up needed. Google PageSpeed Insights opens in a new tab and takes about 30 seconds.

How to read your Google score

  • 0-49Slow
  • 50-89Needs work
  • 90-100Fast

Focus on the mobile result and on three metrics: LCP (how long the main content takes to appear), INP (how quickly the page responds when you tap) and CLS (whether the layout jumps around).

Core Web Vitals

What the speed test measures

As well as the score, PageSpeed checks three metrics Google uses to judge the experience of your page:

LCP

The main content is slow to appear

How long the largest element on screen takes to show up, usually the image or headline at the top. Good: under 2.5 s.

INP

The page is slow to respond

How long the page takes to react when you tap a button or a menu. Good: under 200 ms.

CLS

The page jumps around

Whether elements move while it loads, so you end up tapping where you did not mean to. Good: under 0.1.

WordPress

What usually slows down a WordPress site

If your test came out orange or red, it is almost always for one of these reasons. None of them is fixed with a single plugin: server and website have to be reviewed together. That is what we do in WordPress speed optimisation (WPO).

  • Huge images or old formats (uncompressed JPG and PNG instead of WebP or AVIF).
  • Too many plugins, or plugins that load their files on every page.
  • No page cache, or a badly configured one.
  • Render-blocking CSS and JavaScript, especially from page builders and sliders.
  • A slow server or an old PHP version.
  • Fonts, videos and third-party scripts (chat, maps, tracking pixels) that load too early.

FAQ

Website speed: frequently asked questions

What is Google PageSpeed Insights?

It is Google's free tool for measuring the speed and experience of a page on mobile and desktop. It gives a score from 0 to 100 and a list of specific issues to improve it.

Does website speed affect Google rankings?

Yes. Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP and CLS) are part of the page experience signals Google uses for ranking. On top of that, a slow website loses visitors before they even see what you sell.

Why is my score different every time I run the test?

Because the test simulates a real page load and depends on the server at that moment, the cache and the network. It is normal for it to vary by a few points; look at the trend and at the issues that keep coming up.

What score should my website get?

Green, from 90 to 100, especially on mobile. Between 50 and 89 there is clear room for improvement, and below 50 the website is losing visitors and rankings.

How much does it cost to speed up my WordPress site?

WPO speed optimisation costs €360 + VAT, as a one-off payment. It covers both server and website, is delivered within 7 business days with a before-and-after report, and comes with a 30-day guarantee.
