WordPress MCP: connect Claude or ChatGPT to your website, with permissions

We install and configure an MCP server on your WordPress site so that Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants can work inside it: they write, design, create products and optimise, only with the permissions you choose and with every action logged.

Model Context Protocol

What an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server is

An MCP server is the bridge that lets an AI assistant use the tools in your WordPress site in a controlled way. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard: it defines what the assistant can ask for, what your website answers and what stays out. Without that bridge, AI can only give opinions. With it, it can do the work.

It is one more part of your website, like a plugin: it gets installed, configured and monitored. And like any part that gives access to data, it matters who sets it up and how.

The AI assistant can only reach your WordPress site through the MCP server, with the permissions you have set, and can chain actions with your other tools.
Examples

What AI can do in your WordPress site

AI no longer stops at drafting: it works inside your website like a member of your team. You decide what it can touch and what you review before it goes live.

Write and publish on your blog

It researches the topic, writes in your tone of voice, picks images, categories and SEO, and publishes or schedules the post. You can review every article first or let the blog run on its own, with your sign-off at the end.

Design whole pages in your page builder

It builds a complete page in Elementor, Bricks or the block editor, with your styles and your components, and leaves it as editable as any other page.

Create products on the spot

From a photo, a supplier's PDF or a customer's request: product page, variations, price and images. Custom products for a specific customer too, with their own payment link.

Optimise a page or the whole site straight from Claude or your favourite AI

It reviews titles, meta descriptions, internal links, structured data, images and speed, and applies the changes. It does not leave you a to-do list: it leaves you a better website and a breakdown of what it changed.

Answer with your shop data and act on it

"What sold best this quarter and what is running low on stock?" It answers with the real figures and, if you ask, creates the coupon, adjusts prices or prepares the campaign.

Look after the site behind the scenes

It reads the error log, finds broken links, failing plugins or duplicate content, and fixes them or suggests how to.

Security

Permissions, security and GDPR

Giving AI access to your website feels daunting, and it is a good sign that it does. That is why the first thing we do is close doors.

Separate credentials for each connection

Every connection has its own credentials. We never use the admin account: if access needs revoking, you cut off one connection without affecting the rest.

Permissions per tool

Reading orders is not the same as publishing a post. Each tool has its own permission, and we only switch on the ones you need.

Action log

Everything the assistant does is logged: what it asked for, which tool it used and when. If something does not add up, you can check it.

Personal data and GDPR

Before connecting anything, we check what personal data is involved (customers, orders, forms) and whether it fits with GDPR. Sometimes the answer is to limit what the assistant can see, and that is what we do.

Compatibility

Which assistants it works with

MCP is an open standard, so it does not tie you to a single provider. One server can serve different assistants, as long as they support the protocol.

Claude

One of the assistants we set up the connection with. It works with the tools you enable in your WordPress site.

ChatGPT

Same as with Claude: same server, same permissions. Before setting it up, we check that your plan allows MCP connections.

Other MCP clients

Any agent or app that speaks MCP can connect. If you already use one, let us know and we will see how it fits.

Options

Plugin, your own server or a third-party service

There are three ways to run MCP on WordPress, and none of them is right for everyone.

WordPress plugin or Abilities API

The option closest to WordPress: the functions are exposed from inside the website itself. A good fit when you want a few tools and to keep everything under your control.

Open-source server

More flexible and more customisable, but it has to be hosted, updated and monitored. It makes sense if you need custom tools.

Third-party service

Quicker to get going. In exchange, your data goes through an outside provider and you pay a fee. It is worth checking carefully where that data is processed.

We tell you which one fits your website once we have seen what you want to do and what data is involved. We do not push a default option.

Process

How we install it

  1. 01. What you want AI to do

We talk about the specific tasks you want off your plate and what data they involve.

  2. 02. Permission design

We decide which tools are switched on, with which credentials, and what stays out.

  3. 03. Installation on a staging copy

We set it up first on a copy of your website, so it can be tested with no risk.

  4. 04. Documented handover

We move the configuration to your live site and give you, in writing, what each tool does and how to revoke it.

If you want to chain actions with other tools, it can be combined with n8n or Make automations. And if you would rather have an assistant that looks after your customers, take a look at the rest of our AI integrations for WordPress.

And after installation

An MCP server is software that gets updated and is worth keeping an eye on. With a WordPress maintenance plan, we keep it up to date along with the rest of your website.

Who does the work

We are a studio from Oleiros (A Coruña, Spain) with 8 years of hands-on WordPress experience, working freelance since February 2018. You talk to the person who does the work, not to a go-between. Meetings are by video call and, if you are in the city of Barcelona, we can also meet in person.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about MCP in WordPress

What is an MCP server and what is it for?

It is the bridge between an AI assistant and the tools in your WordPress site. It lets Claude, ChatGPT or other agents write and publish content, design pages, create products or work with WooCommerce orders, but only with the permissions you have set. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard.

How do you connect Claude or ChatGPT to WordPress?

Through the MCP server installed on your website. You configure which tools it exposes, create separate credentials for that connection and add the server to the assistant from its settings. We leave it set up, tested and explained in writing.

Is it safe to give AI access to my WordPress site?

It depends on how it is set up. We do it with separate credentials for each connection (never the admin account), permissions per tool and a log of every action. Beforehand, we check what personal data is involved and how it fits with GDPR. What it does not need to see, it does not see.

Do I need a plugin to use MCP in WordPress?

Not always. There are plugins and the WordPress Abilities API, but also open-source servers and third-party services. Each route has its pros and cons in terms of control, maintenance and data privacy. We explain which one fits your case before installing anything.

Does it work with WooCommerce too?

Yes. It can look up your shop's orders, products or customers, with the permission you choose for each one. The most sensible approach is to start in read-only mode and open up write access once you see how it works.

What is the difference between an MCP server and a chatbot?

A chatbot is a public face: it looks after your visitors with the information on your website. An MCP server is an internal working door: it lets an assistant do tasks in your WordPress site for you. You can use both at once, but they solve different problems.
