WordPress migration: we move your site to a new host or domain
Migrate WordPress without losing data or rankings: we back up before touching anything, move the site, switch the DNS once everything has been checked and make sure it all works. From €120 + VAT.
Website migration: when it makes sense
Hardly anyone migrates for fun. You migrate because something no longer fits, and it is almost always one of these three things.
Your hosting is slow or costs too much
The site takes ages to load, the server struggles as soon as traffic goes up, or the renewal has pushed up your bill without anything getting better. Changing hosting usually solves the problem. If the slowness comes from the site itself, WPO optimisation is the other route.
WPO optimisationYou are changing domain
A new name, a new brand, a move from .es to .com. Moving the domain is the delicate part, because Google knows your site by its old address. You have to tell it, with 301 redirects, that everything has moved.
You are coming from another platform
Your site is on Joomla, a closed website builder or a WordPress install you can no longer touch, and you want to move to WordPress. It is a different kind of job, because nothing gets copied: it gets rebuilt. Tell us what you have and we will tell you what is feasible.
Where is your site hosted, and how well does it respond?
Enter your address and we will tell you where the DNS and server are, whether it uses a CDN and how long it takes to respond. It is the first thing we look at before a migration.
If your hosting falls short, we migrate it without hurting your SEO: from €120 + VAT.
What the WordPress migration includes
Full backup before touching anything
Files and database, stored separately. If anything goes wrong, we go back to where we started.
Move to the new hosting
Files and database, with the site set up and tested before anyone sees it.
DNS switch at the right moment
Only once everything has been checked, so downtime is kept to a minimum.
SSL certificate
Your site opens with the padlock again from day one.
301 redirects and internal links
If the domain changes, so you keep the rankings you already have.
Final check
Forms, emails sent by the site and, on WooCommerce, the shop and payments.
It does not include the new hosting or domain, which you sign up for yourself. If you are not sure which to choose, we will advise you.
How we migrate your site, step by step
01. Backup and analysis
We make a full backup and review the site: size, plugins, PHP version, where the email lives. That tells us what might cause trouble.
02. Move and test
We set up the site on the new hosting without touching the old one, which keeps running. We test it there before showing it to anyone.
03. DNS switch
We plan it so downtime is minimal and happens at a low-traffic time. For you and your visitors, the site is still there.
04. Final check
We check forms, emails, SSL and links. On a shop, we place a test order. When everything is in place, we confirm it with you.
Do you lose rankings when migrating WordPress?
Not necessarily. If you only change hosting and the site’s address stays the same, Google barely notices: it is the same content at the same URLs. If you change domain, the risk is real, which is why we set up 301 redirects from every old page to the new one and review the internal links. A well-done migration cannot guarantee your rankings stay untouched on day one, but it does make sure you do not throw them away through carelessness.
How much it costs to migrate a WordPress site
A professional migration of a standard website costs from €120 + VAT.
Large sites, shops and migrations with a domain change take more work, so we quote them separately. Always in writing and before we start: you know what you will pay before we touch anything.
After the migration
A freshly moved site is the best moment to get it properly looked after. With WordPress maintenance, from €25/month, someone takes care of updates, backups and monitoring. And if you are changing hosting because the site was slow, WPO optimisation for €360 + VAT tackles the cause inside the site.
Who does the work
We are a studio from Oleiros (A Coruña, Spain) with 8 years of hands-on WordPress experience, working freelance since February 2018. You talk to the person who does the work, not to a go-between. Meetings are by video call and, if you are in the city of Barcelona, we can also meet in person.
Frequently asked questions about WordPress migration
How long does a WordPress migration take?
It depends on the size of the site, the number of plugins and whether the domain changes. A standard site is a short job; a shop or a large site takes longer. Once we have analysed your case, we give you the timescale in writing, together with a quote if needed.
Will I lose SEO when migrating?
If you only change hosting and the address stays the same, your rankings hold because the URLs are the same. If you change domain, we set up 301 redirects and review internal links to keep what you have earned. No migration can promise exact rankings, but this part is done with care.
Does the site have to go offline during the migration?
No. We set up and test the site on the new hosting while the old one keeps running. The only delicate moment is the DNS switch, which we plan so downtime is minimal and happens at a low-traffic time.
What happens to my email?
It depends on where it is. If your email is on the old hosting, it has to be moved or kept running before the DNS switch; if it is on another service (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365), it is not affected. We check this in the initial analysis so you are not left without mailboxes on a Monday morning.
Can you choose the new hosting for me?
We advise you based on what your site needs and your budget, but you sign up for the hosting and domain yourself, in your own name. That way the access is always yours.
