Web design with Bricks Builder, if someone technical will run the site
Bricks gives a lot of control over the result and asks more of whoever uses it. We tell you whether it pays off in your case and what it means day to day.
When Bricks makes sense
Bricks makes sense when you want control over the result and someone with technical judgement will maintain the site. If you will edit everything yourself with no technical knowledge, another editor is usually more comfortable.
We would choose it if…
- You care about control of the HTML and CSS it produces.
- A professional will maintain the site over the long term.
- You need templates and dynamic data without adding several add-ons.
We would look elsewhere if…
- You want to edit the design yourself without knowing layout.
- You need a free version to start with: it has none.
- You would rather not depend on one specific theme.

What it means that Bricks is a theme
Most builders are plugins that run on top of a theme. Bricks is the theme. Its licence defines it that way, and this has a practical consequence: changing theme means leaving the builder and rebuilding the design.
That is why it is best decided at the start of a project, not halfway through.
Licence: worth thinking about first
If you only have one site, the $79 annual plan is the natural choice. The lifetime licence only pays off if you run many sites for years. Cancelling does not switch the site off, but without updates you build up risk: Bricks warns about this on its pricing page.
So if the licence is not renewed, the site needs another plan to stay secure. Updates are part of WordPress maintenance.
Be careful with extensions
Part of the appeal of Bricks is needing fewer add-ons. If you add third-party extensions, each one is another piece that can have vulnerabilities and has to be watched and updated. Before installing one, we check whether Bricks already covers it.
If it does not fit, compare it with these
Elementor
Elementor makes sense when editing visually on your own matters more than every kilobyte. If speed comes first, or the site will have a lot of custom logic, there are better options.
See ElementorOxygen
Oxygen makes sense if someone who knows layout will run it and you prefer a one-off payment. If you will edit the design without that background, it is not the most comfortable option.
See OxygenEtch
Etch makes sense if you want to avoid depending on a builder and there is a technical profile behind the site. It is newer than the other options, so there are fewer professionals and extensions.
See EtchBreakdance
Breakdance makes sense if you want a visual editor and to design WooCommerce shop pages without much code. If what matters most is finding plenty of professionals who know it, Elementor has the edge.
See BreakdanceEmDash
EmDash makes sense for a content site built with Astro, if editors need a panel and someone technical handles the rest. If you need WordPress plugins or a WooCommerce shop, it is not for you.

Who does the work
We are a studio from Oleiros (A Coruña, Spain) with 8 years of hands-on WordPress experience, working freelance since February 2018. You talk to the person who does the work, not to a go-between. Meetings are by video call and, if you are in the city of Barcelona, we can also meet in person.
Bricks: frequently asked questions
Is Bricks Builder better than Elementor?
It depends on who will touch the site. Bricks gives a professional more control; Elementor feels more familiar to someone editing without technical knowledge. Neither is best for every project.
Is Bricks a plugin or a theme?
A WordPress theme that includes the builder. It is an important difference, because you cannot use it with another theme as you would a plugin.
What happens if I cancel my Bricks licence?
According to Bricks, you can keep editing your sites, but you lose updates, support and community templates. The company itself warns that outdated software is a security risk.
Can someone with no technical knowledge edit the site?
They can change content if the site is prepared for it. The design is another matter: it is best left to someone with layout experience.
